Attorney General Warns of Scammers Contacting About “Fraudulent” Activity

Attorney General Michelle Henry is alerting Pennsylvanians about a phishing scam involving contact with victims about claims of fraudulent activity on the victim’s banking account to try to access personal data and information.

Often, the scammers will provide a telephone number for the victim to call or instruct the victim to reply to an email or text message. The scammers then request login credentials to financial accounts, account numbers, and other personal identifiable information, such as your Social Security number and date of birth.

Financial institutions will never ask for your account information or login credentials through a telephone call, text message, or email. If you receive such a call, email, or text, do not respond. Instead, you should contact the number on the back of your debit or credit card or contact your financial institution’s local branch office and verify if they made the contact.

Scam victims should inform the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection by visiting the website, https://www.attorneygeneral.gov/submit-a-complaint/scams-complaint/,  emailing [email protected], or calling the office at 1-800-441-2555.
